Things get more and more complicated in
this session chronology, partly because during the mid 1980s Bob Dylan began to
use multiple overdubbing and reworked the masters. In addition most of the
sources of information for this series of articles (listed in part 1 in “The
Telegraph”) are not available for the post Infidels sessions, simply
because standards and working routines had changed with time.
Therefore, the following overview of the
Empire Burlesque sessions is based on several sources of information and
is not complete, nor necessarily correct in every detail. Regard this as a
supplement to what is known already.
Work on Empire Burlesque started

Empire Burlesque was released June 8, 1985. Even before that,
Bob Dylan was very active jamming and recording with new groups of
musicians, concluding with extensive sessions in the spring of 1986 for
Knocked Out Loaded. The session at the Eurythmics' "Church" in November
1985 is an example of such a jam/recording, but there were many others,
and they were mixed with Dylan's participation in Live Aid and Farm
Aid, and other activities, such as the shooting of music videos. In
October the release of Biograph was a milestone. So 1985 and
1986 were probably two of Bob Dylan's most active years, at least in
the 1980s.
